Here at Dolish Farmhouse B&B we like to think that we’re doing our bit to minimise our Carbon Footprint by using Renewable Energy sources and embracing the need to respect and preserve the environment. Being eco-friendly is always going to involve some compromise (and quite a lot of work!) but we feel there is now some urgency for us all to make a start.
Some of the installations and measures we have taken are listed below:
- Heating/hot water system based on a large central Heatstore principle – fuelled by:
- High efficiency Wood Pellet boiler
- Solar thermal system
- Further hot water and cooking using modern wood-fired range cooker
- Further space heating using large central wood-burner and an open log fire
- Earth wool Insulation made from recycled plastic bottles
- All internal plastering using traditional lime-putty plasters
- All external work using lime renders and lime pointing
- All internal & external walls traditionally limewashed
- All painted timber using breathable water-based (V.O.C.-free) paints
- Timber treatment using inert Boron compound (permethrine-free)
- All window sills made using recycled oak floorboards from the property
- Bio-Disc Sewage treatment plant
- low-energy lighting measures
- new flooring treated with sustainable natural oils & waxes
- sustainable & eco-friendly Ecover cleaning & body care products used
- eco guest soaps (based on Ola oil & fragrant essential oils) hand-made for Dolish Farmhouse
Dolish biomass and solar installations were supported by ‘Devon County Council’ through ‘RE4D’
